50 Leaks On Ballast System
The ballast pipe system had around 50 registered leaks, causing significant operational challenges.
Prior to using Wencon repair solutions, various methods such as plugs and bands were attempted to stop the leaks, but these proved ineffective.
The Solution
50 leaks registered
Around 50 leaks were registered in the
ballast pipe system. Leaks were, before the
Wencon repair, tried to be stopped by using
different kind of other methods; here plugs
and bands
Surface preparation
Using Perago discs, the surface was prepared as rough as possible.
Cleaning
Offshore cleaner and water, used to degrease the surface, before applying Wencon
products.
UW products for wet surface
It was decided to use Wencon UW products, which can be applied directly on wet surface – even under water. Applying Wencon Under Water Products and Reinforcement Tape, here first layer.
Several layers coating applied
Applying a thick layer of Wencon UW
Coating on a thin steel plate, and gluing it
on top of the damage.
Ensures the pressure resistance of the repair to be much higher, even when applying only a few layers of Wencon & reinforcement tape on top of it.
Final result
Three layers of Wencon Reinforcement Tape
– one thin doubler – four layers of Wencon
UW Coating/Cream, are able to resist approx.
8 bars of pressure.
Ballast Pipe System Restored
After various unsuccessful methods to stop around 50 leaks in the ballast pipe system, Wencon repair solutions were applied. Using Wencon Under Water products, which can be applied on wet surfaces, the leaks were effectively sealed.
The repair involved multiple layers of Wencon UW Coating and Reinforcement Tape, along with a steel plate for added strength.
The final solution successfully resisted approximately 8 bars of pressure, ensuring a durable and effective repair.
