Addressing severe corrosion in expensive pump housings
A pump inspection conducted after only two years of service uncovered severe corrosion attacks. These large pump housings are quite costly, making it essential to protect them against bi-metallic corrosion to prevent premature wear and expensive replacements.
The Wencon application process
Internal bi-metallic corrosion

As the damages were observed at an early stage, no rebuild of the seats were required. The mechanical strength were still present, so no need for recasting new seats.

capacity.
Rebuild original shape with Wencon Rapid
To obtain original shape and surface, dents and deeps are filled using Wencon Rapid applied with a spatula.
First layer of Wencon coating applied
While Wencon Rapid is still tacky, it is time
to apply first layer of Wencon Coating white.
Application completed after second layer
Second layer applied using a brush while
first layer still are tacky Wencon uses two-layer coating system, to ensure right thickness and full coverage.
Ready for the vessel
Pump assembled and pressure tested, ready to be packed and sent directly to vessel or to customer’s own warehouse.
Effective corrosion protection and maintenance for
pump housings
To address the bi-metallic corrosion in the pump housing, a thorough surface preparation was performed, including blasting and degreasing. Wencon Rapid was applied to fill dents and imperfections, followed by a two-layer Wencon Coating system to ensure optimal protection.
This approach restored the pump housing to its original shape and provided a durable barrier against further corrosion. The pump was then assembled, pressure tested, and prepared for delivery, ensuring long-term reliability and performance.
