Scrubber outlets and hull overboard areas face severe challenges due to harsh marine environments, including constant exposure to corrosive scrubber wash water. This can lead to significant damage and increased maintenance costs.
Wencon epoxy protection is essential to safeguard these critical areas, providing a durable barrier against corrosion and extending the lifespan of your vessel’s structure.
The Solution
Surface preparation & cleaning
Step one involves thorough surface preparation in compliance with ISO 8501 standards. All surfaces are cleaned, degreased, and welds rounded to a radius of at least 2 mm. Rusty areas and weld seams are blast cleaned to a minimum of ISO-Sa 2½.
Purity of the sandblasting is visually checked, and soluble salts are measured to ensure they are below 20 mg/m².
1st layer product application
Before applying the products, ensure the surface is free from dust and grease.
Stripe coating of edges and welds is recommended if deemed beneficial. s.
2nd layer product application
Wencon Coatings should be applied as a double coat system, with the second coat applied while the first is still tacky.
The overcoating time varies from one to three hours depending on the temperature. Curing occurs within 6-24 hours at 20°C (68°F), and faster at higher temperatures.
Overcoating
Wencon’s epoxies are generally compatible with other epoxy-polyamide/amine paints and polyurethane coatings, provided the surfaces are clean and slightly abraded.
Overcoating should be performed between tack-free and fully cured stages.
For overcoating with foreign paints, consult the supplier for specific recommendations.
