Repair of Exhaust Bellow
With smoke gas and soot visible between the insulation and the aluminum cladding, there was no doubt that it was caused by a crack in the exhaust bellow. Luckily, the exhaust bellow was repaired with Wencon Exhaust Compound.

Crack in Exhaust Bellow
A crack in the exhaust bellow of a vessel poses significant challenges, as it allows smoke gas and soot to leak between the insulation and aluminum cladding.
This not only threatens the health and safety of the crew by exposing them to harmful emissions but also increases the risk of fire and compromises the structural integrity of the exhaust system.
The Solution
Smoke Gas & Soot Visible
It was clear that something was not right when seeing the visible amount of soot and smoke gas appearing on the bellow.
Removing the Insulation
We had to remove the insulation in order to be able to see the actual cause of soot and smoke gas.
Cleaning the Surface
After removing the insulation, the crack was
visible. Cleaning the surface with emmery
cloth and cleaner, before applying the Wencon material.
Special Supports
Special supports were made and welded to
the flange, to ensure a stiff part in the bellow.
Final Touch
The crack was covered with metal mesh,
before Wencon Exhaust Repair compound was
applied. Wencon Exhaust applied in several
layers into the bellow openings.
